LA RAMBLA, Los Angeles County — Although La Rambla is surrounded by the City of Los Angeles neighborhood of San Pedro, it is an unincorporated county island. Its property owners should therefore review LA County’s South Bay Area Plan, not assume every City of Los Angeles zoning rule applies.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted the South Bay Area Plan on March 11, 2025; associated Title 22 zoning amendments took effect April 11, 2025. The plan addresses housing, environmental impacts, economic development, transportation and community resources in eight unincorporated South Bay communities, including La Rambla.
What to verify before remodeling
Planning policy is not a building permit. The allowed size, use, parking requirements and setbacks for a property depend on the actual parcel and any subsequent amendments. Residents can use LA County’s GIS zoning map or contact the Department of Regional Planning at 213-974-6411.
For addresses near the county-city boundary, confirm the jurisdiction by parcel number rather than relying only on a San Pedro mailing address.
